I’m getting kind of personal here. This is a story I’ve wanted to share for a while, because it’s one that I’ve experienced myself and because it’s almost too wild to be true. I figured what better place to share it than with some of my favorite people — you guys! I’m going really deep here and talking about things I only talk to my therapist about. Yep, what will be discussed in this episode has left me in therapy many years later, for reasons you’re probably going to roll your eyes at.

This story begins in the summer of 2006. I was 20 years old and I had just left a serious long-term relationship to move to Ottawa, Ontario with my parents. My father was in the military and he was being posted to Ottawa from Fredericton and I had a difficult…

On April 1st, 2008 Skye Lynn Budnick took a one way flight to Japan. She was just 21 years old. She didn’t tell anyone she was planning to take this trip and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since. I had a fan send me this story, because Skye’s sister Megan has become the most incredible advocate for her over on TikTok, sharing her story and experience and keeping Skye’s name out there.

Tonight I’m going to be using my platform to share Skye’s story as well, using the information I’ve been able to gather, but I want to make this point very clear: once you’re done listening, please head over to Megan’s TikTok account and listen to her videos. This is her story and her sister’s disappearance, nobody can tell it better than Megan can.

I actually want to start by talking a little bit about Skye’s sister Megan. I started working on this article a couple weeks back and it’s taken me so long to finish it because Megan’s videos really hit a nerve with me. I cover a lot of unsolved cases on…

More than three decades after 13-year-old Carrie Ann Jopek went missing after a house party, her killer would come forward to confess — saying that Carrie’s ghost had been haunting him ever since that fateful day. Her disappearance and death went unsolved for 30 years until the perpetrator said he just could not handle being haunted by her spirit any longer. What’s crazy, is that this case would likely have never been solved if he did not come forward and admit to what had happened.

Carrie ann Jopek was born on August 17, 1968, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She lived with her mom Carolyn, stepfather Fred and little sister Maggie in a very friendly family-oriented neighborhood, with homes lined up right beside each other. It was one of those communities where the kids played outside with…

The kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everard sparked outrage and a movement. Sarah disappeared earlier last year after walking home from a friend’s house. The person responsible for her death? Someone who was sworn to protect the public — a police officer. Her vigil got really intense. Sarah’s story is a part of a bigger conversation — why are women not safe to walk alone? How can we keep women safe?

Sarah Everard was born in Surrey, South East England in 1987, so she was just 33 years old when she was attacked. Her father Jeremy, 67, is a professor of electronics at York University, and her mother Sue, 64, works in charity. She was the youngest of three — she…

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the Black Lives Matter movement. With events like the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor murders, came a wave of varying Facebook images — some showing peaceful protests, police brutality, riots, just a whole range of things happening. One image that I saw shared around a lot last year featured a little boy holding a sign that says “free hugs”. In the next image, the same little boy is seen hugging a police officer with tears in his eyes. And I thought to myself as most people did — what a beautiful image. Unfortunately, the truth of this photo and the events that occurred after this photo will break your heart in the most unimaginable of ways. When I dug into this story, I couldn’t believe that it didn’t get more media coverage.

The little boy in that photo was Devonte Hart. That picture gained national attention when he was photographed in tears while hugging a white police officer during a 2014 protest in Portland, Oregon. Devonte was adopted by the Hart family in 2008 when he was six years old, which most…

This is the story of the unsolved murder of Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner, two women who were killed last year at their campsite. They had mentioned a creepy guy that seemed to be following them and some even believe the creepy guy could be Brian Laundrie. It’s actually not as far-fetched as it sounds. This case didn’t seem to get as much coverage because the murders happened around the same as Gabby Petito so I definitely want to talk about it now and keep it at the forefront.

Let’s start with Kylen’s life and background because her father has been very vocal about who she was as a person and how far she had come.

Kylen was born in Vail, Colorado, USA on September 5, 1996, to her parents Sean-Paul Schulte and Valerie J. Carr Schulte. She was…

This is an unsolved mystery that seems to have turned into a cold case since there appears to be very little new information. Kayo Matsuzawa was a bright, beautiful, friendly, and adventurous 29-year-old Japanese woman who traveled to study English in Christchurch, New Zealand. However, she met a tragic fate while sightseeing in Auckland city. Her body was found, naked and decomposing in a utility room in the local mall very shortly after she had landed and checked in to her hotel. This is another one of those cases where the answer feels right at your fingertips, but unfortunately for Kayo’s family, it’s still unsolved.

Kayo Matsuzawa was a beautiful 29-year-old woman from a little fishing town in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. I know everyone says the most wonderful things about people once they have passed, but seriously Kayo was special. She had the heart of an adventurer. Her mother said that ever since she was…

I wrote about serial killer Ivan Milat, also known as the backpack murderer from Australia. I included details about the inner workings of the Milat family, but apparently it goes even deeper. In this story, we are talking about Matthew Milat, who is Ivan’s nephew. Matthew idolized his killer uncle and went on to commit murder in the very same Belangalo state forest that Ivan prowled. It’s so scary, it sounds like it could be a movie, but this all really happened.

If you read my two-part series on Ivan Milat yet, I highly recommend you check those out first, because they’ll really set you up for this story. …

Andrea Knabel is a single mother of two, who worked as a private investigator as a member of Missing in America, a volunteer organization that devoted its time to finding missing adults and children. In a cruel twist of fate, Andrea herself would become a missing person. It has been two years since she seemingly vanished without a trace — are we any closer to finding the truth of it all?

The date is Aug. 12, 2019. Andrea Knabel is a 37-year-old woman completely down on her luck. She had recently been laid off from her job where she had worked as an analyst for Humana, and as a result, lost her home. Her car had also recently been totaled in…
